Soft clouded pink cut to four faces and an apex - rose quartz, strung into beads in Mesopotamia before writing, here a piece to set down and keep. The cloud in the stone catches the light along the edges.

Rose quartz - soft clouded pink cut to four faces and an apex, the stone strung into beads in Mesopotamia before writing and given between people ever since. From Brazil, cut as a pyramid.

The pink comes from microscopic mineral fibres dispersed through the quartz - which is why it reads translucent and cloudy rather than clear, and why strong sunlight can pale it over time. Not a dye; the colour is the stone’s own.

It forms in the cores of granite pegmatites as large shapeless masses, never as natural points, which is why rose quartz is always cut and shaped. Long given as a token between people - named here as observation. Hard-wearing at Mohs 7.

Interior of the Maison Éthérique store: shelves of minerals along the walls and visitors at a long wooden table.

A contemporary house of ancient materials

Maison Éthérique brings together incense, aromatic resins, botanical bundles, crystals and the objects used with them. From our house in Dubai, we explore their aromas, stories and traditions - a collection for personal rituals, familiar favourites and gifts with meaning.

For the meaning it holds

A familiar aroma can become part of a daily ritual. A stone can be kept as a symbol of protection; a botanical chosen for a practice of purification. Across the collection, scent, beauty and personal meaning offer different reasons to choose.
