A selenite wand - a smooth, polished rod of translucent white satin-spar gypsum, cool and light in the hand, the satin sheen running its length. Softer than almost any stone shaped. From Morocco.

Selenite is gypsum - hydrated calcium sulfate, Mohs 2, soft enough to mark with a fingernail. The wand is cut from satin spar, whose fine parallel fibres throw a chatoyant band of light that travels along it as it turns.

It is the softest, most water-sensitive material in the house: dust it with a dry cloth, never wash it, and store it apart from harder stones. The great gypsum beams of Naica, in Mexico, are among Earth’s largest crystals - the same mineral, grown over hundreds of thousands of years.

A contemporary house of ancient materials

Maison Éthérique brings together incense, aromatic resins, botanical bundles, crystals and the objects used with them. From our house in Dubai, we explore their aromas, stories and traditions - a collection for personal rituals, familiar favourites and gifts with meaning.

For the meaning it holds

A familiar aroma can become part of a daily ritual. A stone can be kept as a symbol of protection; a botanical chosen for a practice of purification. Across the collection, scent, beauty and personal meaning offer different reasons to choose.
