A true metallic gold cut to four bright faces rising to a point - pyrite, iron sulfide, the mineral whose brassy shine earned it the name fool’s gold. It grows in near-perfect cubes on its own; here it is cut to catch the light. Bright, heavy, unmistakably metal.

Pyrite - a true metallic gold cut to four bright faces and a point, iron sulfide, the mineral whose brassy shine earned the name fool’s gold. It grows in cubes. From Peru, a pyramid.

It is the most striking metallic mineral cut as a stone - a pale brass-gold with a bright, genuinely reflective lustre, hard for a metal-bright mineral at Mohs 6–6.5. Its hallmark is crystal form: unaided, pyrite grows in remarkably precise cubes.

The name is from the Greek pyrites lithos, the stone that strikes fire: struck against steel, pyrite throws a spark, and it was used for exactly that in early firearms. Polished into discs, it was used as mirrors by the peoples of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Keep it dry - moisture can dull the surface.

A contemporary house of ancient materials

Maison Éthérique brings together incense, aromatic resins, botanical bundles, crystals and the objects used with them. From our house in Dubai, we explore their aromas, stories and traditions - a collection for personal rituals, familiar favourites and gifts with meaning.

For the meaning it holds

A familiar aroma can become part of a daily ritual. A stone can be kept as a symbol of protection; a botanical chosen for a practice of purification. Across the collection, scent, beauty and personal meaning offer different reasons to choose.
