Pyrite - a true metallic gold that strikes sparks against steel, the iron sulfide called fool’s gold for its brassy shine. It grows in near-perfect cubes with no help from any cutter. Bright, heavy, unmistakably metal.

Its hallmark is geometry: pyrite forms remarkably precise cubes and twelve-sided crystals, faces finely striated, looking machined but wholly natural. The Greek name means fire-stone, for the spark it throws - it sparked early firearms, and the peoples of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica polished it into mirrors.

Iron sulfide, Mohs 6–6.5, hard for so metallic a mineral. The one rule it asks is dryness: as an iron mineral it can tarnish in damp, so it is wiped dry and kept from moisture - the care that holds the shine bright.

Interior of the Maison Éthérique store: shelves of minerals along the walls and visitors at a long wooden table.

A contemporary house of ancient materials

Maison Éthérique brings together incense, aromatic resins, botanical bundles, crystals and the objects used with them. From our house in Dubai, we explore their aromas, stories and traditions - a collection for personal rituals, familiar favourites and gifts with meaning.

For the meaning it holds

A familiar aroma can become part of a daily ritual. A stone can be kept as a symbol of protection; a botanical chosen for a practice of purification. Across the collection, scent, beauty and personal meaning offer different reasons to choose.
