Oud Elan Incense Sticks

Oud - also called agarwood or aloeswood - is the resinous heartwood that forms when Aquilaria trees become infected with a specific mould (Phialophora parasitica). The healthy tree produces a defensive resin in response; over years, the resin saturates the wood. The infected, resin-saturated wood is the oud. Uninfected Aquilaria wood is not aromatic. The Karnataka workshop's Oud Elan stick combines ground oud-rich heartwood with the same traditional binders as the sandalwood range.

1. Hold the tip to a flame until it catches (5–10 seconds).
2. Blow the flame out so the stick smoulders.
3. Place in an incense holder on a heat-safe surface.
4. The first three minutes carry a creamy-woody opening; the burn deepens into resinous warmth.
5. Allow ash to cool fully before clearing.

Burns for approximately 30–40 minutes per stick. Ventilate the room as the burn progresses.

Khaleeji perfumery rests on three foundational materials: oud, sandalwood, and rose. This stick contains the first; the rest of this collection carries the second. The pairing of oud and sandalwood - burned together or in sequence across an evening - is one of the oldest aromatic combinations in Arabian household tradition, documented in Arabic perfumery treatises from the 9th century onward. The Karnataka workshop makes both materials in the same hand, in the same building, with the same binders.
