Moonstone - a pale stone with a blue-white light that floats under the surface and drifts as you tilt it. The Romans believed it was made of frozen moonlight. The glow seems to come from inside.

That floating light is adularescence, named for a peak in the Alps: light scattering between microscopic layers of two feldspars built into the stone, returning as a soft billowing sheen. The body is milky white, the finest float reading blue.

A feldspar like amazonite and sunstone - sun and moon named for the light each holds - and softer than quartz at Mohs 6–6.5, so spare the beads hard knocks. Worn for that sheen across India and Sri Lanka for centuries. The light does the rest.

Interior of the Maison Éthérique store: shelves of minerals along the walls and visitors at a long wooden table.

A contemporary house of ancient materials

Maison Éthérique brings together incense, aromatic resins, botanical bundles, crystals and the objects used with them. From our house in Dubai, we explore their aromas, stories and traditions - a collection for personal rituals, familiar favourites and gifts with meaning.

For the meaning it holds

A familiar aroma can become part of a daily ritual. A stone can be kept as a symbol of protection; a botanical chosen for a practice of purification. Across the collection, scent, beauty and personal meaning offer different reasons to choose.
