The kuchu - a small hand-bound natural-fibre broom from Nepal, sized for the hand and used for spreading and directing incense smoke through a space. Made by Kathmandu Valley craftspeople in the same broom-grass-and-binding tradition as the larger household brooms, scaled down and finer for the smoke-tool format.

Held at the bound shaft, brush end forward, the kuchu fans or sweeps incense smoke across rooms, into corners, or toward specific areas without disturbing the burning incense itself. Total length approximately 20–25 cm; the brush end forms the larger portion.

A specific tool with a specific job. Over repeated use, the brush fibres pick up trace aromatic residue from the incense smoke - part of the broom's character.

Interior of the Maison Éthérique store: shelves of minerals along the walls and visitors at a long wooden table.

A contemporary house of ancient materials

Maison Éthérique brings together incense, aromatic resins, botanical bundles, crystals and the objects used with them. From our house in Dubai, we explore their aromas, stories and traditions - a collection for personal rituals, familiar favourites and gifts with meaning.

For the meaning it holds

A familiar aroma can become part of a daily ritual. A stone can be kept as a symbol of protection; a botanical chosen for a practice of purification. Across the collection, scent, beauty and personal meaning offer different reasons to choose.
