Palm Stones Crystal Set

The Selenite stick. A small piece of polished selenite - the fibrous gypsum variety with the characteristic silky lustre. Selenite is one of the most commonly used companion stones across mineral-collecting traditions for its smooth tactile quality and luminous appearance.

The Palo Santo stick. A single stick of Bursera graveolens, the South American aromatic wood used across the Andean tradition for smoke-burning. The stick is harvested from naturally fallen branches in the regulated forests of Ecuador or Peru. Burns slowly when the tip is lit, releasing the characteristic sweet-woody-citrus aromatic.

The palm stones are intended to be handled - the polished surface and palm-sized scale make each stone a tactile object that sits in the hand. Many traditions hold a single stone during quiet practice, meditation, or reading; others arrange the stones in a pattern on a surface during a session. There is no required format.

The Selenite stick is the traditional companion piece - often passed near or around the palm stones, sometimes placed adjacent to them on a surface. The mineral-collecting tradition associates selenite with the maintenance of the rest of the stones in the collection.

The Palo Santo stick is used by lighting the tip with a flame for 10–15 seconds, blowing out the flame, and allowing the wood to smoulder. The aromatic smoke is released as the wood smoulders. To extinguish: place the lit end in a heat-safe dish of sand or ash, or carefully blow out the smouldering tip.

All stones can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth. Avoid water for selenite and hematite - both react with prolonged moisture (selenite is gypsum and water-soluble over time; hematite can develop surface oxidation). The other stones can be rinsed briefly in cool water and dried thoroughly.

On the trade name "Tiger's Eye." The stone is correctly named chatoyant quartz - a fibrous silica pseudomorph after crocidolite (a fibrous amphibole), polished to display the characteristic chatoyancy (the optical "cat's eye" or "tiger's eye" effect, from the French chatoyer, to shimmer like a cat's eye). The trade name "Tiger's Eye" is universally used in the mineral trade but is not the mineralogical name. The same applies to the broader stone-trade convention where commercial names often differ from the mineralogical species - disclosed here for transparency.
