For the space between one chapter and the next. Two sages from Mexico - one sharp with camphor, one milder and sweeter - and aged Peruvian palo santo, warm with limonene. Lit directly, moved through the room, rested in a dish.

Reset - white sage, blue sage, and palo santo: three smokes burned across cultures for thousands of years - the sages to purify a space before something new, the palo santo to brighten it after. For the space between one chapter and the next.

The two sages are sisters, chosen for contrast. White sage - Salvia apiana, from Mexico - carries the sharp, camphor-like smoke of the oils in its leaf. Blue sage - Salvia azurea - was burned for the same purpose but reads milder and sweeter, with none of the camphor edge. The palo santo - Bursera graveolens, from the dry forests of Peru - is fallen wood, never cut, left to age until the resin forms; its smoke is warm and sweet, rich in limonene.

Each piece lights directly - tip to flame, blown out, left to smoulder - and relights for several sessions. Three named species, three named origins, one sequence the room moves through: sharp, then soft, then sweet.

A contemporary house of ancient materials

Maison Éthérique brings together incense, aromatic resins, botanical bundles, crystals and the objects used with them. From our house in Dubai, we explore their aromas, stories and traditions - a collection for personal rituals, familiar favourites and gifts with meaning.

For the meaning it holds

A familiar aroma can become part of a daily ritual. A stone can be kept as a symbol of protection; a botanical chosen for a practice of purification. Across the collection, scent, beauty and personal meaning offer different reasons to choose.
