Ananta Sandalwood Incense Stick

Ananta - "infinite" or "without end" - is a blended formulation rather than a pure-wood stick. Ground Santalum album heartwood is mixed with traditional Indian aromatic binders (typically halmaddi resin from Ailanthus malabarica and a small fraction of plant gums). The blend is hand-rolled and air-dried; the binders extend the burn and even out the release of sandalwood oil across the length of the stick.

1. Hold the tip to a flame until it catches (5–10 seconds).
2. Blow the flame out so the stick smoulders.
3. Place in an incense holder on a heat-safe surface.
4. The first three minutes carry a creamy-woody opening; the burn deepens into resinous warmth.
5. Allow ash to cool fully before clearing.

Burns for approximately 30–40 minutes per stick. Ventilate the room as the burn progresses.

The traditional Indian sandalwood-with-halmaddi formulation predates the modern incense industry by centuries. Halmaddi is the resin of Ailanthus malabarica, an Indian tree whose sap has been used as a fixative in aromatic preparations since at least the Mughal era. Real halmaddi is now uncommon - many modern Indian incenses substitute synthetic binders. The Mysore workshop sources only from suppliers who can verify the species and the extraction method.
